From installation to your first analysis in a few minutes.
Place the camera in front of you (face-on) or behind you along the target line (down the line), at about waist height and three meters away. Your whole body and the club should stay in the frame for the entire swing, including the top of the backswing and the finish.
Hit a real ball: the analysis finds the moment of impact from ball contact. Good light and a calm background help, and a tripod keeps the picture steady.
The quick analysis is AI-based and gives you the key points to work on, with drills, within seconds. It works with any video, including from behind.
The detailed analysis measures your swing frame by frame, calculates your LAB score and matches swing faults with suitable drills. It needs a face-on video with ball contact and takes one to two minutes.
The LAB score combines the measured values of your swing from the detailed analysis into a value from 1 to 10 in half steps. It is always calculated the same way and is comparable across your analyses, so you can see your progress.
For the analysis, your video is uploaded to one of our analysis servers: at Amazon Web Services in the United States (Virginia) or in Frankfurt, depending on which server is available; the quick analysis runs at Hetzner in Nuremberg. After that the video is stored in your account at Supabase in Frankfurt. You can delete any video in the app at any time.
Which data is processed and how is described in our Privacy Policy.
During the round the app uses your location to calculate distances to the green and to hazards and to place your shots. It is stored with your shots in your account. For weather and maps, the providers only receive a rounded position or the map area, without account data. We never use your location for advertising.
In the Birdiebook you plan a course hole by hole. Once you have entered your club distances, Smart Plan plans every hole: each shot with a club from your bag and a target past bunkers and water, with carry and roll.
Course data can occasionally be off. Send a short email to info@customgolflab.de with the course name and hole — we’ll take care of the correction.
Apple Watch: the watch app comes with the iPhone app and is installed on the watch. Wear OS: install TheLAB from Google Play on the watch. When you first open it, you allow the required permissions.
If the watch is connected, it joins when you start a round: it detects full swings automatically, and you enter putts and penalties right on your wrist. The watch works without a subscription too.
Make sure the watch and phone are paired and both apps are up to date. Open the phone briefly during the round so collected data can be transferred. If the problem persists, contact us with your watch model.
Without an account you try TheLAB as a guest: one round, 5 quick and 2 detailed analyses, 5 questions to Hosel. With an account, everything is free for 7 days during the welcome week, with no subscription and no payment details. After that, 3 rounds stay free without a subscription.
TheLAB Pro is available as a monthly or annual subscription: in the United States $8.99 a month or $69.99 a year. In other countries the store shows you the price in your currency. You can only subscribe on the App Store or Google Play.
Subscriptions are managed through your store account:
After cancelling, access stays active until the end of the paid period.
In the app under My LAB → “Delete account permanently”; this also works as a guest. Or email us at info@customgolflab.de and we’ll delete your data completely. Details in our Privacy Policy.
For the swing analysis, your video is uploaded to our analysis server and evaluated there; individual still frames are sent to AI services for this. For coaching, your questions and the metrics needed to answer them are sent to an AI service. The caddie uses your location during the round. When you first open the app, it reports once whether the installation came from an ad in the app stores.
All details — which data, why, and who receives it — are in our Privacy Policy.
No. We do not sell personal data and do not use an advertising ID. We use service providers only to provide the app’s features to you — not for advertising.
